Al Pacino
Alfredo James "Al" Pacino is a living legend, a titan of the screen whose impressive career has spanned more than five decades and earned him numerous awards and accolades, including an Academy Award, two Tony Awards, and two Primetime Emmy Awards. He is one of the few actors to have achieved the Triple Crown of Acting, and is also a recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, and the National Medal of Arts.
Pacino first burst onto the scene with a small role in Me, Natalie (1969), and truly made his mark as a heroin addict in The Panic in Needle Park (1971). But it was his iconic portrayal of Michael Corleone in Francis Ford Coppolaâs The Godfather (1972) that rocketed him to superstardom and earned him his first Oscar nomination. He reprised the role in the sequels The Godfather Part II (1974) and The Godfather Part III (1990). His performance in The Godfather is widely considered to be one of the greatest in film history.
Pacino continued to dazzle audiences with his gripping performances in a string of critically-acclaimed and award-winning films, such as Serpico (1973), Dog Day Afternoon (1975), ...And Justice for All (1979), Scarface (1983), Carlitoâs Way (1993), Donnie Brasco (1997), The Insider (1999), and Heat (1995). He also shone on the small screen, winning two Primetime Emmy Awards for his performances in Angels in America (2003) and You Donât Know Jack (2010). More recently, he starred in the 2019 blockbuster hit Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and is currently starring in the Amazon Video web television series Hunters (2020âpresent).
On stage, Pacino has also made his mark with memorable performances in Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie? and The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel, for which he won two Tony Awards in 1969 and 1977 respectively. He has even ventured into the world of filmmaking, directing and starring in Looking for Richard (1996), Chinese Coffee (2000), Wilde Salomé (2011), and Salomé (2013).
And if all of that werenât enough, Pacino has also been a joint president of the Actors Studio since 1994. Whatâs even more impressive is that, despite all of his success, Pacino still manages to keep a sense of humor, recently quipping that âMy ambition was to stay alive and get a meal every now and then.â Now thatâs a recipe for success!
