Burgess Meredith
Oliver Burgess Meredith was born in 1907 in Charleston, West Virginia, to a coal miner father and schoolteacher mother. He began his theatrical career in 1935, appearing in regional theatre before making his Broadway debut in 1942 in the play The Middle of the Night. After appearing in numerous plays and films throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Meredith became well known for his work on the television series The Twilight Zone, which ran from 1959 to 1964. He also starred in the 1960 film version of The Picture of Dorian Gray and appeared in the films The Cincinnati Kid (1965), The Hudsucker Proxy (1994), and The Time Traveler's Wife (2009). Meredith received Golden Globe Award nominations for his work on the television series The Green Mile (1999) and for his performance in the 2005 film The Devil's Advocate. He received an honorary Oscar in 1996.

He also starred in the films The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), The House with a Clock in Its Walls (2018), and The Mummy (2018), and directed the films The Hustler (1961), The Nun's Story (1961), and The Meredith Brothers (1970). Meredith passed away on September 9, 1997, in Beverly Hills, California.
