Dwayne Johnson is a larger-than-life figure in the entertainment industry, easily recognized for his signature charisma, strength, and larger-than-life presence. An American and Canadian actor, producer, and semi-retired professional wrestler, signed with WWE, Johnson is an iconic figure and an inspiration to many. Half-Black and half-Samoan, Johnson is part of a prestigious wrestling dynasty. His father, Rocky Johnson, was part of the first Black tag team champions in WWE history, alongside Tony Atlas. His mother is Samoan, and the daughter of Peter Maivia, another pro wrestler. Peter's wife, Lia Maivia, was one of wrestling's few female promoters, taking over Polynesian Pacific Pro Wrestling after her husband's death in 1982, until 1988. Johnson is thus a non-blood relative of the Anoa'i wrestling family. On March 29, 2008, The Rock inducted his father and his grandfather into the WWE Hall of Fame, an unforgettable moment that highlighted the legacy of his wrestling roots. In 2009, Johnson gained citizenship in Canada in honor of his father's background. He also has a home in Southwest Ranches, Florida, and Los Angeles, California, as well as a farm in Virginia. He is an independent voter, having voted for Barack Obama in the 2008 and 2012 United States presidential elections. Johnson was also honored with a noble title of Seiuli by Malietoa Tanumafili II in recognition of his service to the Samoan people. Johnson has a partial Samoan pe'a tattoo on his left side, and recently had the small "Brahma bull" tattoo on his right arm covered with a larger half-sleeve tattoo of a bull's skull. Johnson was married to Dany Garcia from 1997 to 2007, and they have a daughter named Simone, born in 2001. He is currently in a relationship with Lauren Hashian, daughter of Boston drummer Sib Hashian, and they have two daughters, born in 2015 and 2018. Johnson is an active philanthropist, having founded the Dwayne Johnson Rock Foundation in 2006. He and his ex-wife donated $1 million to the University of Miami to support the renovation of its football facilities, and the University of Miami honored him by renaming the Hurricanes' locker room in his honor. Johnson has also donated to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, a GoFundMe to pay for an abandoned dog's surgery, and worked with Malama Kauai to help repair damages caused by the 2018 Hawaii floods. A true Renaissance man, Johnson is a true force of nature. As he famously said, "if you want to be successful, you have to make it happen—you have to make your own destiny.” Joking aside, he proves time and time again that hard work pays off!
