Gary Lockwood was born in 1937 in Los Angeles, California. As a child, he was obsessed with space, and dreamed of becoming an astronaut. In 1961, he achieved his dream when he was chosen to be the pilot of the first American manned mission to the then new space station, Skylab. After three successful missions, he retired from the astronaut corps in 1973. However, Gary never lost his love of space. He has since starred in several movies about space, including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Gary is also a successful actor, appearing in such films as The Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure, and The Sandlot. He is currently living in Los Angeles with his wife, Samantha Lockwood, and their son, Jack.
