Gary Oldman was born on 21 March 1958 in London, England. He started his stage career in 1979 and made his film debut in Remembrance, a 1982 film. After a few more stage appearances, Oldman made his breakthrough in British film with his portrayal of Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy. He then starred in Joe Orton's Prick Up Your Ears and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, both of which were critically acclaimed.
Gary Oldman's biggest success came with his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance and was nominated for his portrayals of George Smiley in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Herman J. Mankiewicz in Mank.
