Jamie Foxx was born in Terrell, Texas, on December 13, 1967. He was abandoned by his birth parents at seven months old, and was subsequently adopted and raised by Estelle and Mark Talley, a white couple. Foxx had a strict Baptist upbringing and began piano lessons at the age of five by his grandmother's orders. He enrolled in the Texas Southern University's drama program when he was fifteen, but dropped out after two years to pursue his acting career.
Foxx began his career in the early 1990s, appearing in a number of TV roles. He made his film debut in the comedy Toys, directed by Barry Levinson. He then starred in the Academy Award-winning drama Ray, which starred Robert Downey Jr. as Foxx's character. Following Ray, Foxx starred in the hit comedies The Jamie Foxx Show and Any Given Sunday.
