Kate Winslet
Kate Elizabeth Winslet is an actress, singer, and philanthropist who has taken the world by storm since her breakthrough performance in Heavenly Creatures in 1994. She's been nominated for numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, three British Academy Film Awards, and five Golden Globe Awards, and has taken home the winning trophy for Best Actress for her role in The Reader in 2008.
Winslet's career began at the Redroofs Theatre School, and she made her screen debut at the ripe age of 15 in the British television series Dark Season. But it was her role in the epic romance Titanic in 1997 that rocketed her to fame. She then chose to focus on independent films and period dramas, appearing in Quills, Iris, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Finding Neverland, Little Children, and Revolutionary Road. Her latest role in Steve Jobs earned her another BAFTA Award, while her performances in the HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce and Mare of Easttown won her two Primetime Emmy Awards.
In addition to her acting chops, Winslet is also a talented singer. She performed the song "What If" for the soundtrack of her film Christmas Carol: The Movie and won a Grammy Award for her narration of a short story in the audiobook Listen to the Storyteller.
Winslet is also a co-founder of the charity Golden Hat Foundation, which aims to create autism awareness, and has written a book on the topic, The Golden Hat: Talking Back to Autism. She was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2012 and has been named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine in 2009 and 2021.
When asked about her success, Winslet is known to joke that she's "just trying to keep my head above water, which is why I'm so good at playing characters that are drowning!" She is currently married to businessman Edward Abel Smith and has two children from her previous marriages.
