Michelle Yeoh
Malaysian-born Michelle Yeoh Choo-Kheng is an internationally-acclaimed action star, renowned for her impressive stunts and incredible martial arts prowess. A Hong Kong-based actor, she has been named as one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in the World in 1997 and was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Actress for her role in the Academy Award-winning Chinese action film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Her career has spanned numerous action films, but she is best known in the West for her roles in the 1997 James Bond outing, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. In the former, she played Wai-Lin, a Chinese spy, and in the latter, she played Yu Shu-Lien, a female warrior. Her performances in both films were met with universal praise, and she is still to this day regarded as the greatest action heroine of all time by the film critic website Rotten Tomatoes.
But Michelle Yeoh's story is an interesting one. Initially, her first few films saw her credited as Michelle Khan, due to the D&B studio believing it might make her more marketable to Western audiences. However, Yeoh later preferred using her real name, and it's just as well she did, as she has since become an icon in her own right.
In fact, Michelle Yeoh is so iconic that when asked to describe her in one word, many people simply say "unstoppable"! And if that doesn't make you laugh, then nothing will.
