Powers Boothe was born in 1948 in a small town in Arkansas. He was the second of three children, and the only son. Powers' father, a sharecropper, died when Powers was just 9 years old, leaving Powers and his mother to raise themselves. Powers grew up tough and determined, learning to take care of himself and to rely on his own strength. He got his start in show business as a singer and dancer in local night clubs. In the 1970s, Powers Boothe started to gain recognition for his work in television and film. He was cast in the role of Jim Jones in Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones, which won him an Emmy Award in 1980. He also starred in Deadwood as saloon owner Cy Tolliver, Tombstone as Curly Bill Brocius, President Noah Daniels on 24, and Lamar Wyatt in Nashville. Powers Boothe died on May 14, 2017, at the age of 75.
