Robert Carlyle

Robert Carlyle, globally renowned actor and movie legend, was born on the banks of the River Clyde in the shadow of the Glasgow Cathedral on April 14, 1961. Raised in the city's deprived east end, he developed a love of the arts at an early age, and began performing in amateur theatre productions. After a series of successful appearances on Scottish television, he was spotted by an agent and signed to a professional contract with the National Theatre of Scotland. His breakout role came in the award-winning 1985 drama film Trainspotting, for which he was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Actor. Since then, Carlyle has gone on to appear in some of the biggest and most acclaimed films of our time, including Hamish Macbeth, The Full Monty, The World Is Not Enough, Angela's Ashes, The 51st State, and 28 Weeks Later. He also portrayed Dr. Nicholas Rush in the popular Stargate Universe series. His impressive body of work has earned him numerous accolades, including an OBE for services to the performing arts, and he is currently on a world tour in support of his latest movie, The Last Temptation of Christ.
