Sean Justin Penn is an actor and filmmaker whose talent and charisma have made him a Hollywood powerhouse! An Academy Award winner for his roles in Mystic River and Milk, this acclaimed actor has had an illustrious career spanning over four decades in both film and television. Penn made his television debut in 1974, appearing as an extra in an episode of Little House on the Prairie directed by his father, Leo Penn. He made his feature film debut in 1981, starring in the drama Taps. After a series of diverse roles in the 1980s, including Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Bad Boys, Penn earned critical acclaim for his roles in the crime dramas At Close Range, State of Grace, and Carlito's Way. Penn's popularity soared when he starred in the 1995 drama Dead Man Walking, for which he earned his first Academy Award nomination and the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlin Film Festival. In addition to his acting career, Penn has also established himself as an acclaimed director. His directorial debut came in 1991 with The Indian Runner. Since then, he has gone on to direct several other critically acclaimed movies, such as The Crossing Guard, The Pledge, and Into the Wild. He also directed one of the 11 segments of the 2002 film 11'09"01 September 11, which was made in response to the September 11 attacks. But his talents don't stop there. Penn is also a political and social activist, having spoken out against the George W. Bush administration, made contact with the Presidents of Cuba and Venezuela, and provided humanitarian aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the 2010 Haiti earthquake. When he's not busy making movies, Penn can be found having fun with his friends or cracking jokes. After all, as Penn himself once said, “If you don't have a sense of humor, you're better off dead!”
