Thandiwe Newton
Thandiwe Newton is an award-winning powerhouse of an actress, a force to be reckoned with on the big screen and beyond. With more than 30 years of acting experience, she has established herself as one of the most sought-after talents in the industry. She has received awards such as a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, a Primetime Emmy Award and a British Academy Film Award, and she was even appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2019 New Year Honours for her services to film and charity.
Famously known for her roles in films such as Beloved, Mission: Impossible 2, Crash, The Pursuit of Happyness, Run Fatboy Run, RockNRolla, W., 2012, For Colored Girls and Solo: A Star Wars Story, Thandiwe has become an icon of both the small and silver screens. But her most acclaimed performance has come from her portrayal of the sentient android, Maeve Millay, in HBO’s sci-fi western series, Westworld. For her work as Maeve, Thandiwe has received a Primetime Emmy Award, a Critics Choice Award and multiple nominations for a Golden Globe Award, a Saturn Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Most recently, Thandiwe has been in the news for correcting a misspelling of her name – Thandiwe – which had been spelled incorrectly for 30 years in the credits of her first film. She has now officially corrected this, and will henceforth be known and credited as Thandiwe Newton.
Thandiwe has certainly come a long way, and we can’t wait to see what she does next! After all, as Thandiwe herself famously said, “I’m an actress, what’s the worst that could happen?”
